Wisdom & Wonder | Proverbs 3:5-8

January 22, 2022

Break the ice. Who is the wisest person you know? What have you learned or observed from their life?

Read Proverbs 3:5-8.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.
Discuss the passage.

  1. Re-read verses 5 & 6 aloud. Do you receive this verse as a challenging truth? Or do you receive it more as an invitation?
  2. How would you describe trusting in the Lord with all your heart?
  3. Why do we need wisdom?
  4. We define wisdom as living in God’s world in God’s way. What is another way you would describe wisdom?
  5. How do we become wise?

Close in Prayer. Pray Proverbs 3:5-8 together, inviting everyone to pray through these verses:

  1. Ask God for belief, to walk in surrender, and trust in Him with all of our life.
  2. Ask God to give favor and endurance, knowing that this is a lifelong journey.
  3. Call out to God for wisdom, thank Him that He gives it generously (James 1).
  4. End by listening, ask God to reveal to you if there are ways in which you are being wise in your own eyes or listening to other voices for trust and refreshment.
