GENEROUS MULTIPLICATION

The heart of God is for generous multiplication. Our church’s heritage exemplifies this truth. We were planted as a campus, and we long to be a church that multiplies. In 2023, we entered a season of prayer, asking how to honor God and steward His blessings. Again and again, we’ve sensed His call to multiply — to share His good news with others in our area.

Providence Church in Frisco is moving north to build a new church building and we have the opportunity to purchase their existing building on Preston Road. Providence is a sister church to Citizens Church, both planted by The Village Church. Our congregations have shared affection for the Lord and for one another.

We’re asking God to open or close doors and make His will clear. Specifically, should we pursue this opportunity as a way to multiply through a second location? In humility and prayer, we’re seeking His wisdom.

FAQs

Following Covid, Citizens Church experienced significant growth in both Sunday services and across all our ministries. In 2023, we entered into a season of prayer, asking the Lord to show us how to steward growth and all the blessings He generously provided. We called this season of prayer SEEK. God gave the elders a clear direction that stewardship at Citizens Church should match the pattern that God showed us as we were planted — generous multiplication.

First, we focused on growing deep together at our existing location. This would prepare our church for the spiritual maturity necessary to support outward multiplication.

Second, we strengthened our efforts in church planting. Specifically, we increased our relationship and partnership with Acts 29 and began participating with other churches to plant churches (e.g. Mission House, Icon Church, Pillar Church, Renewal City).
Finally, we kept sensing God’s call to multiply by planting campuses. Through our own process of transitioning from a campus to an autonomous church, we learned that planting a campus is an effective and stable way to multiply our culture and DNA.
Providence Church is moving from its current location on Preston Rd in Frisco to north Frisco. Their building is currently on the market and would be a turnkey opportunity for another church to utilize.
Providence is a sister church planted by The Village Church in 2005. We have enjoyed a gospel relationship with them over the years through common theology, relationships, and sharing Christ in Collin County. They have a rich heritage as a multiplying church having already planted three churches. To find out more, visit their website.
Our members are spread out around north Texas, meaning that in any direction we go, there is a viable concentration of people that could participate in launching a campus. Specifically, more than 250 members live west and north of the Providence location, making it a strong candidate for a future campus.
By campus, we mean one church with two locations. We feel most equipped and experienced to multiply through the campus model, since it was how we were planted.
We are open-handed and want to humbly and generously multiply. Our hope is that campuses would become autonomous churches, but we do not have a current timeline or plan for when this campus would be ready to become its own church.
We would aim to have live preaching from day one. Practically speaking, Jamin and the preaching team would cover both locations and/or rotate from place to place.
Our campus vision is more about multiplication than making room where we are. After talking to many other churches, the reality is that planting churches isn’t a material way to alleviate space issues. We will continue to consider options, such as a third service, but we currently don’t have a clear answer on what is best for the growth at Plano.
Right now, our primary focus is on prayer and seeking God’s will. We are asking Him to humble us, align our hearts with Christ, and guide us in wisdom.

Ideally, we hope to make a final decision about extending an offer in step with the September 14 Member Meeting. If that offer is extended and accepted, we anticipate that Providence Church would remain in their current facility until the completion of their new building, projected for sometime in 2027.

This timeline could be beneficial to Citizens, offering the ability to plan and prepare for the campus launch.
From a member perspective, we recognize that people may feel led in different ways. Some will sense a clear conviction to join the mission of multiplication. Others may be drawn by proximity, or by the unique closeness that often marks a new church plant. And some will choose to remain in Plano, continuing to serve faithfully here. Wherever each person lands, we will want to rejoice and participate together.
Leadership across the locations will be shared, but eventually the new location will have dedicated elders and local leadership. In the meantime, Cory Butler, Melissa Cotter, and John Marc Kohl will serve as our campus planning team, playing a vital role in preparation, planning, and execution.
This opportunity will require us to enter into a season of intentional fundraising. While other churches might engage in regular building or generosity campaigns, we’ve purposefully held off — waiting for a time like this, one that aligns with the joy and vision of multiplying. We’ve always sought to steward His resources wisely and to live within our means — and that won’t change. But this moment would invite us to worship and trust God in new ways, to give sacrificially, and to faithfully join together.
