About Jovin

I grew up in Plano, Texas, and was graciously raised in a Christian home. I have two siblings—an older brother and a younger sister.

My father is a firefighter and the strongest, most determined person I know. My mother is a full-time mom who homeschooled my siblings and I from K–12 and took us on frequent trips to the fire station; she is now officially an empty nester.

I was saved at a very young age, though my initial desire to follow Jesus was influenced by wanting to be like my older brother. I share this not to diminish the reality of my salvation but to highlight a struggle that has persisted through my life. In middle and high school, I wrestled with a mindset of being a lesser version of my brother. Now in college, comparison hasn’t disappeared—it has just shifted to friends I see as stronger, smarter, or more attractive. Yet throughout every stage, Jesus has consistently reminded me that my identity is in Him and that He loves me for who I am. He is teaching me to combat the struggle of comparison and embrace the truth of John Newton’s words: “I am not what I ought to be, I am not what I want to be, I am not what I hope to be in another world; but still I am not what I once used to be, and by the grace of God I am what I am.”

I began attending Citizens Church when it was originally TVC Plano in Fall 2014, joining with my parents at just 10 years old. I am currently pursuing a B.A. in Biblical Studies at Criswell College and feel incredibly grateful to serve in the house of the Lord.

My Hope for Citizens Church

My hope for Citizens Church is that we would know and follow nothing among ourselves except Jesus Christ and Him crucified, serving Him faithfully and boasting in nothing but His name.
