Break the ice. What was your first concert? What was your favorite concert?

Read the passages below together

Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. - Colossians 1:28

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. - Romans 8:28–29

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. - Ephesians 5:25–27

Discuss the passage

  • Each of these passages addresses the idea of a transformation taking place in a person. What words are used to describe this?
  • Who is the agent of change in each passage? Or said another way, who is empowering the transformation?
  • How do we as children of God, posture our lives to change?

Discuss the third value of Citizens Church | Whole-Person Discipleship: All of life full formed by love for Jesus
Every person is a combination of mind and heart, body and soul, thoughts and emotions, beliefs and desires, past and present. Following Jesus is not simply about learning the right things, but every part of us being conformed into His image (Romans 12:1-2, Col 1:28). At Citizens, that means our mind and heart, body and soul, thoughts and emotions, beliefs and desires, past and present, and all of our being is transformed when Jesus is the primary love of our lives. The goal of discipleship does not end once we have the right answers, but when we have become whole people.

  • Is the idea of Whole-person discipleship a new concept?
  • The things we value, what we love, care about, think about and spend our time doing are the things that shape and define who we are. How would adopting this value as your own change you?
  • How does this value encourage your membership at Citizens? Does it excite you to become a member if you are not already?

Close in Prayer
Thank God for His grace and willingness to transform you into the image of Jesus. Ask God to reveal places in your life where you have disordered loves that you may surrender to our loving God.

My hope for Citizens Church is that we would be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did in Collin County and beyond.
