Construction FAQs

We believe that God has generously blessed us with this building and it is our responsibility to steward it well for future ministry. The planned changes will address several important deficiencies and needs, including:
  • Creation of a dedicated and consolidated space for Kids on Sundays
  • Strengthened security measures and capabilities in the Kids areas
  • Improved accessibility for individuals with disabilities
  • Enhanced flow including
  • Easier access to key areas of the building
  • Optimized use of space to support ministries and staff
The primary project includes four phases of construction.

Phase 1: installation of an elevator, creation of a mezzanine to connect the two upstairs areas, widening of the first floor Kids door at the bottom of the ramp, and rerouting of the stairs to allow second floor Kids access from the foyer.

Phase 2: Converting the second floor (above current preschool) into staff offices

Phase 3: Transforms the current office areas (near Calvin’s Chapel) into nine additional Kids rooms, a new laundry / work room, and a family meeting room.

Phase 4: Updates the existing Preschool hallway (off the Foyer) into multiple classrooms, a kitchen /communion prep area, and additional staff offices.

Additionally, we are hoping to replace the new playground, refresh the north bathrooms, and seal the building.
While we would like to do all the described items (and more!) the phased approach and separation of projects allows us to prioritize and complete items as time and funds permit.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of 2024, with phase one completion anticipated by mid-2025. Future phases and the additional projects are currently unscheduled.
The impact is expected to be minimal. Our desire is to minimize disruption to Sunday services and ministries.
Upon completion of phase three, first floor of the Building 1 will be separated with access control points. This will allow weekday Kids Care to take place while still enabling the Chapel and other parts of Building 1 to be used for ministry events.
The main reason for "painting" is actually to seal the building to protect the aging brick (25–45 years old) from leaks. The sealant used can be pigmented to give the building a uniform look.
The door at the bottom of the ramp will be widened to a 6-foot double door, replacing the current 3-foot door. Also, by moving the entrance to the staircase to the foyer, Elementary Kids and families will use the stairs instead of the ramp. The elevator will remain accessible.
By consolidating all children's programming into a single building, it will be easier to monitor and ensure the safety of participants in children’s events.
Due to the previous generosity of our church, we are in a position to start construction and begin planning many of the additional projects. While we’re not in a position to financially support all the improvements, we are also not interested in incurring debt or launching a building campaign. The Building Improvement Fund was created for those who are excited about the improvements and feel led to join in with us financially.

Extra funds will allow us to complete the phases and projects sooner or with greater enhancements (e.g. playground equipment and shade).
