Kids Minister

The Kids Minister position will assist the Kids Director by helping to plan and lead in all aspects of ministry to children (birth – 5th) and their families. This role requires someone who is passionate about ministering in the lives of children with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Deliverables in this role vary but include being able to provide a consistent weekend environment where kids hear, see and experience the gospel through large and small groups, equip and care for families as they lead their children toward Jesus, and approve, equip and encourage volunteers.

Job Responsibilities

Curriculum Strategy and Planning

  • Spend regular time in study and prayer
  • Assist with writing curriculum for weekend programming for assigned age groups
  • Commission the development of any needed supplemental resources
  • Act as a theological checkpoint regarding curriculum
  • Prepare (or delegate) weekend props and staging for Elementary Large Group Lesson
  • Write or help create family resources
  • Write or help create resources for small group leaders and lead teachers to assist in effective communication of the gospel
  • Participate in the planning and execution of CitiCamp (summer camp)
  • Schedule, set up and help teach the Family Baptism class and facilitate the interview process and Celebration Weekend assignments 

Tactical Execution

  • Help oversee the Citizens Kids ministry and offer ministerial presence
  • Help oversee and participate in teaching responsibilities for Citizens Kids
  • Help oversee and engage in discipline issues involving children and their families, if necessary
  • Coordinate with Worship and Communications ministries and collaborate on song choices for Elementary Large Group
  • Work with ABLE ministry in placing volunteers and assimilating such children
  • Counsel and pray with children and families during times of need
  • Help evaluate the health and effectiveness of the ministry and make necessary adjustments
  • Availability to teach and serve in non-children’s ministry environments
  • Participation in Staff Development Activities (Restore, Staff Retreat, etc.)
  • Counsel and pray for members and attenders of Citizens Church

People Development

  • Oversee volunteer meetings and new volunteer interviews
  • Interview and train new volunteers, ensuring they are ready to do the work of the ministry and place them into the appropriate service roles
  • Communicate weekly (email and otherwise) with volunteers to provide encouragement and information
  • Write content for and facilitate volunteer training
  • Provide feedback to volunteer leaders and teachers
  • Help create/develop new curriculum and training where needs present themselves (missions, ABLE, Citicamp)

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Commit to exhibiting a lifestyle that is consistent with Citizens Church’s Statement of Faith  
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Background in theological studies preferred
  • 1+ years of ministry experience
  • Advanced knowledge of leading, teaching, vision casting, and counseling that is age-group appropriate
  • Proficient in reading, understand, and rightly teaching the scriptures
  • Proficient in contextualizing theological truths for birth through 5th graders
  • Proficient in leading, shepherding, and equipping volunteers
  • Working knowledge of child development
  • Working knowledge in administrative systems and platforms (e.g. Google Drive and Apps,etc.)
  • Able to make decisions, problem-solve, manage conflict and work well on a team
  • Self-starter, learner, flexible and adaptable
  • Demonstrate good time management

  • Coaching and development
