About Adam

God pursued me from a young age, preparing my heart for the wonderful truth that the depth of Jesus’ love surpasses all knowledge. He made me with a deep existential angst, a need and desire to make sense of the world for which I so long pronounced as absurd and meaningless. God also afflicted me with some serious thorns, robbing me of my arrogance and pride. I love Him mightily for that.

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to devoted parents who loved the Lord; however, our understanding of God was heavily legalistic and performance driven. I felt overwhelmed by the conviction and condemnation of my sinfulness, but I lacked the knowledge that Jesus had fulfilled the demands of the law. My spiritual life did nothing to satisfy the intense burdens on my soul. It failed to illuminate the true majesty and beauty of our gracious Savior. By high school, I was functionally agnostic and looked to music, philosophy and other worldly pursuits to fill the void.

After college, I prepared to start a Ph.D. program in philosophy, but God had other plans. He graciously allowed severe anxiety and depression to afflict my soul. After a particularly visceral series of panic attacks, my family urged me to attend Church. In 2005, I heard the gospel and the seeds that God had planted in me in my younger years came into bloom.

I struggled to reconcile the world's wisdom that I had been collecting with the True wisdom of God. Again and again, God led me to the realization that His Word is true, that I am a sinner in need of a savior and that the only thing that will satisfy the longing in our hearts is to be in union with Jesus Christ.

In 2011, I married Heather, the most wonderful woman in the world, and God blessed us with three wonderful children. In 2014, I left my job as a patent litigator and came on staff at The Village Church, Plano, now Citizens Church. My desire here is to serve the body of saints and proclaim His name.

My Hope for Citizens Church

My hope for Citizens Church is that we would behold the truth and majesty of God and be transformed into whole people, which is another way of saying into the image of his son. I pray that our joy in Him would spill over into the world as we seek to represent his Kingdom to the world.
