About Steve

I was blessed to be born into a Christian home in which the Word of God was studied and taught. Both of my parents were godly people who taught the Bible for over six decades. I came to know Christ at 9 years of age when my older sister shared the gospel with me. My faith, however, was rather superficial until I reached young adulthood. After becoming convicted of my lack of knowledge of God’s word and my superficial relationship with Him, I prayed that God would help me. He put in my heart a profound appetite for His word, through which my desire to know Him became ever-increasing.

Shortly later, I was married to my wife, Sheila, who has been life’s greatest blessing to me. Three years later our first son, Grant, came into the world. We were actively involved in our church, where we were blessed to teach a young married couples class. God was planting seeds in our hearts toward ministry through our marriage, parenting, and church involvement. Eventually, the Lord put it in our hearts to move to Dallas, Texas to pursue education toward vocational ministry.

After moving to Texas, Sheila and I continued to teach young adults in a local church and serve in other capacities as well. Three additional children—Aaron, Grace and Hannah—were added to our family. I worked for Prestonwood Baptist Church for most of the years while I was completing my education. At long last, I finished my degree at Dallas Theological Seminary in Biblical counseling. I became a licensed counselor in 2005. We joined The Village Dallas in 2012 and quickly got into a Home Group. We opened our counseling center, North Dallas Christian Counseling, in 2014. We are currently serving our community through Christ-centered counseling and our church by providing biblical counseling training.

My Hope for Citizens Church

My hope for our church is that we would grow in wisdom and love for the Lord and for people, seeking to enlarge the hearts of our people through intentional discipleship and loving relationships.
