About John

Some of my earliest memories include my parents taking me to church on a weekly basis. My parents loved me well and made it clear that they loved me, that they loved each other and that God loved me, as well.

When I was 10 years old, my parents divorced, shattering my conception of God's love. Being a child, I assumed that my parents divorced because they had stopped loving each other. I believed they had lied to me about their love, which meant that they had also lied about God's love for me.

At the age of 13, God made it crystal clear that His love for me was undeniable. For the first time in my life, Jesus became real as He saved me from my sin. He was no longer just a concept in a Sunday school lesson or a name thrown around in church, but He became the passion of my life. He called me to pastor churches, and I set out to do just that.

After college and seminary, I had the privilege of pastoring two incredible churches for 14 years and expected to do so for the rest of my life. But in 2010, my friend from India started an organization to build schools so that the gospel might be shared through the means of education. A couple of years later, God allowed me the privilege of working for this organization, directly playing a part in sharing His gospel for His glory with the nation of India.

I met my wife, Lari, at college, and we married in 1993. God has blessed our family with five boys: Payton, Connor, Ethan, Caleb and Silas. This keeps the Hall house a pretty exciting place.

We came to The Village in 2012, and have been blessed by the convictions and teachings of the church ever since. God has been gracious to me; His love has seen me through my faults, my mistakes and my sins over my entire life. This love has made my wife and I more passionate about knowing Christ, and we pray that He would use us to point others back to Him.

My Hope for Citizens Church

My hope for The Village is that we would remain a church with the gospel at the center of everything we do, and in this, we would bring glory to God as we passionately pursue Him and take the gospel to DFW and the ends of the earth.
