Connections Deacon
I am a native Texan, born in Galveston while my father was attending medical school and my mother worked part-time. I am the second of four children, with two boys and two girls in our family. We eventually moved to Austin, where we attended a Methodist church throughout my school years. At the time, church was primarily a social experience for me, and I gave little thought to faith or religion.
Music was my greatest interest, and Austin’s nightlife offered plenty of it. After high school, I played in a band with a friend who suddenly became a Christian. The change in him was dramatic, and he began writing powerful songs about finding meaning, love, and truth in Jesus. I was surprised that he had felt those things were missing from his life, but unknown to him, I felt the same way.
After hearing the gospel many times in different settings, I prayed with one of the other guys in the band. I believed that Jesus had died for me and was alive, and I trusted Him with my salvation and my life.
My wife, Lori, and I met while we were students at the University of North Texas, and we were part of Denton Bible Church's early days. After graduation, we were married across the street from McKenna Park, where I had wooed her with afternoon picnics and songs on my acoustic guitar. She never had a chance.
We have three sons, two of whom are members of Citizens Church with their families. We are also blessed with four grandchildren, who are pretty much the center of our universe.
My Hope for Citizens Church
My hope is that we are a light in the world, that each of us serves the Lord and each other with the unique gifts and calling that He gives, and that we are known by the love He has given us and that we have for each other.
1 Cor. 12:18, John 13:35
